Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is the systematic inspection and electrical testing of plug-in equipment to detect any safety hazards. Dreig’s certified technicians deliver comprehensive PAT services to ensure your workplace remains compliant with AS/NZS 3760:2022 and safe from avoidable electrical incidents.
What We Test
● Office and commercial appliances (kettles, heaters, monitors, etc.)
● Construction equipment (drills, grinders, power tools)
● Medical and laboratory devices
● Extension leads, power boards, chargers
● 3-phase appliances (where applicable)
Our Process
1. Visual Inspection: Detect wear, damage, or signs of unsafe usage (e.g., exposed wires, broken casing).
2. Electrical Testing:.
- Earth continuity test
- Insulation resistance test
- Polarity check
- Leakage current test (if required)
3. Tagging: Each item is tagged with a colour-coded, tamper-proof label indicating pass/fail status and re-test date.
4. Digital Reporting: A full test register and certificate of compliance delivered in PDF or CSV format.
Test Procedure
● Physical Inspection: Hinge alignment, door seals, and latch integrity.
● Leakage Detection: Measurement with a calibrated microwave radiation detector (in mW/cm²).
● Distance Control: Readings taken at 5 cm and 50 mm as per standard.
● Fail-safe Check: Ensures microwave shuts off when door opens.
Outcomes
● Immediate pass/fail results
● Certificate of compliance
● Tag with next test date
● Remediation advice (repair/replace)
